Fotona 4D

Fotona 4D is a protocol that combines Nd:YAG and Er:YAG lasers, so it spans both lifting and resurfacing comparisons.

How it works

Fotona 4D is a multi-step laser protocol built on two wavelengths: Nd:YAG light at 1064 nm together with Er:YAG light at 2940 nm. The Nd:YAG light penetrates deeper and heats tissue, while the Er:YAG wavelength is absorbed strongly by water and works at the surface. Used in sequence, the steps are intended to warm deeper layers for tightening and to refine surface texture. The Er:YAG laser can also be used in a fractional mode for resurfacing.

Good to know

  • The catalog lists it as an Nd:YAG (1064 nm) and Er:YAG (2940 nm) laser protocol.
  • It appears in two categories here: laser lifting and erbium fractional resurfacing.
  • Layered steps mean a session can combine deeper warming with surface work.
  • Warmth is typical, downtime depends on which steps are used, and results vary by person.

Where Fotona 4D sits among similar devices

Fotona 4D is unusual because one platform shows up on both sides of the comparison between lifting and resurfacing. Used as a lifting protocol it is gentle and warms tissue with little visible wound; used as a fractional erbium laser it resurfaces the skin and carries real recovery. Which mode is planned determines which concerns it addresses.

Compared with a dedicated CO2 fractional laser, erbium is generally described as more water-selective and shallower in thermal effect, which is why it is often discussed for lighter resurfacing. Compared with radiofrequency or ultrasound lifting, the laser steps are less about structural depth and more about skin quality plus mild tightening. A doctor can explain which steps apply to your concern.

Fotona 4D: common questions

Is Fotona 4D one treatment or several?

It is a protocol made of several laser steps, and the doctor may use some or all depending on the plan.

Does it have downtime?

The lifting steps usually have little; the fractional erbium step can cause redness and fine crusting for several days.

Is it the same as CO2 laser resurfacing?

No. Erbium and CO2 are different wavelengths with different effects on tissue.
