Sofwave
Sofwave uses a parallel-beam ultrasound design that differs from point-by-point HIFU, so it is usually compared as a gentler, shallower alternative.
How it works
Sofwave is built on synchronous ultrasound parallel beam technology, often shortened to SUPERB. Instead of a single sharp focal point, it uses several parallel ultrasound beams to heat a layer of tissue in the mid-to-upper dermis, with surface cooling to protect the skin. The aim is to prompt collagen remodeling for mild lifting and firmness while keeping the treatment relatively short and the surface unbroken.
Good to know
- The catalog lists it as synchronous ultrasound parallel beam (SUPERB) technology, not conventional point HIFU.
- Energy is directed to a shallower dermal layer than deep HIFU units, with cooling at the surface.
- It is discussed for mild skin laxity, fine lines and firmness, particularly of the brow, face and neck.
- Effects develop over weeks to months and vary by person.
Where Sofwave sits among similar devices
Sofwave belongs in the ultrasound conversation, but it answers a different question than deep HIFU. Where HIFU aims at tissue near the structural layers, this approach heats a broader band higher in the skin. For fine lines and early looseness that still involves the dermis, that depth may be the point; for heavy jowls it may be too shallow.
That makes it a middle ground between surface resurfacing and deep ultrasound. It is not a resurfacing device, and it does not add volume. Readers weighing it against radiofrequency will find the difference in how the energy is delivered: parallel ultrasound beams versus electrical current. Comfort, downtime and response differ by person.
Sofwave: common questions
Is Sofwave the same as HIFU?
It is also ultrasound, but the beams are arranged and delivered differently, and the heating zone is shallower.
What concerns is it considered for?
Mild laxity and fine lines are the common ones; severe sagging usually needs a stronger or different approach.
Is there recovery time?
Usually little, though temporary redness or tenderness can occur.
