Juvelook (PDLLA)
Juvelook belongs to the collagen-stimulator family but behaves differently from products designed to rebuild volume. This page explains what makes it different, which concerns it suits, and when another option is a better match.
How it works
The active ingredient is poly-D,L-lactic acid (PDLLA), a biodegradable polymer. It is prepared as a diluted suspension and injected in small amounts into the upper to mid layers of the skin, often with many tiny injection points. The particles provoke a controlled response in the skin, which responds by building more collagen over the following weeks. The aim is a gradual improvement in skin thickness, texture and firmness rather than a visible change in shape. A short series of sessions is common, and results vary by person and by the starting condition of the skin.
Who it may suit
- Fine lines and crepey texture on the cheeks, neck or around the eyes
- Shallow acne scars and enlarged-looking pores, as part of a broader plan
- Early signs of skin thinning where a booster alone feels too mild
- People who want a gradual change without noticeable added volume
The treatment day
- Skin quality assessment. The doctor checks thickness, texture, scarring and previous treatments to decide the right depth and area.
- Numbing. Numbing cream is applied and left on for a time before the session.
- Micro-injections. The diluted product is placed in small amounts at multiple points, with a needle or sometimes a cannula.
- Soothing and instructions. The skin is calmed and you receive instructions for the days that follow, which may include light massage.
Aftercare
- Avoid heavy make-up until the injection points close, usually within the day
- Follow any massage guidance exactly as given
- Skip saunas, strenuous exercise and facials for a few days
- Use sunscreen and a gentle moisturizer while the skin settles
Things to know first
- Small bumps, bruising and redness for a few days are common
- Nodules or lumps under the skin can occur with this class of material, and there is no enzyme to dissolve it
- Vascular events are rare but possible with any injectable
- Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active skin infection, or with a tendency to keloids or abnormal scarring
- It is not designed to fill deep folds or restore lost facial volume
How Juvelook compares with nearby options
Think of the stimulator family as a spectrum from structural to surface. Calcium hydroxylapatite sits at the structural end, giving support. Poly-L-lactic acid is aimed at gradual regional volume. Juvelook sits toward the skin-quality end: shallow placement, smaller volumes and a focus on texture. If your face looks hollow, a volume-focused option is more relevant; if your skin looks thin or lightly scarred, this is closer to what you are asking for.
Compared with skin boosters, which rely on hydration or regenerative molecules and are given as a repeated series, Juvelook relies on stimulating collagen. Boosters are generally gentler and quicker to recover from, and the stimulator may be considered when a booster has not delivered enough.
For deeper, tethered acne scars, neither is usually enough. Subcision, needling or energy devices are more commonly considered, and PDLLA is sometimes used as a supporting step.
Juvelook (PDLLA): common questions
How is it different from Sculptra?
Both are lactic acid polymers, but the preparation and placement differ. Juvelook is usually used shallow for skin quality, while Sculptra is typically used deeper for volume.
Is it good for acne scars?
It may help shallow, rolling scars and general texture. Deep or tethered scars generally need other approaches.
Will my face look fuller?
Not noticeably. The change is aimed at skin quality rather than shape.
Can lumps be dissolved?
Not with an enzyme. A doctor would assess any lump and choose a medical approach.
